Start Spreadin' the News

We went for one daaaaaaay...We saw a ti-ny part of it...New York, New York!(I just can't sing like Sinatra)

Although I don't have a camera, Laura does! She took some great photos of New York in general, but I won't steal those from her...so I'll leave it to the parts I saw...Grand Central and Central Park...the first of many trips. Now that I have one year left, we're going to go a lot! After my successful trip, now some of my friends, so we're thinking of checking out the Bronx Zoo and the zoo in Central Park for starters with kids, and at least one trip without the little crumb snatchers :)

The boys and I had a fun-filled day!

Camera-less

Noticed anything new about our blog? Me neither! My camera is most likely down for the count, so it's going to be a little hiatus without one...I'll have it replaced by Charlie's first birthday which is right around the corner if you can believe it!
Charlie took his first steps...in Childwatch at the Y. Yep. Even though I'm home, I still missed it! Since then he's taken a few bumbling steps if I put him out in front of me, but yesterday he let go of the ottoman and just took off across the room. For sure, by the time we're home in the summer he'll be keeping up with the Joneses...or Villagomezes and Nortons (sorry Erkel, you're still the back of the pack ;))

For Mother's Day, I took the kids solo into Boston, where we participated in the Ducklings Day Parade. (You can see someone else's photos of it by clicking here ) Based on the popular (in New England...they act like everyone's heard of it, but I never had until moving here) book Make Way For Ducklings about a mallard family who explores Beacon Hill and Boston Common in order to find a home to raise their family, kids and parents re-trace their stops along the way, which was really just a nice excuse to explore all the absolutely beautiful brownstone type homes in Beacon Hill/Louisberg Square. The homeowners participate by quacking at the kids when they walk by and having rubber duckies and fun stuff in their windows. Henry loved it!
When we were walking back to the T, I saw the swirling red and white canopy of a carousel in the Public Garden, so Henry got a nice surprise...much more fun than the dinky carousel at the mall! Then on to the "Tadpole Playground" which is adjacent to the Frog Pond (empty until July 1st) a cement wading pool that kids LOVE in the summer! The playground was great, and I will definitely be taking the kids into the city more often now that I've discovered that great playground!
Only $1.75 for the T, since the kids are free, and packing a lunch makes it a great day of fun while still exposing the kids to the real city. Sorry, Worcester doesn't count :)
We rode home and it was standing room only. For once, people will be able to see the utility of Henry's "backpack" as my firm grip on his "tail" prevented him from a faceplant on the subway when he let go of the handle during the ride. Finally the man who'd been sitting got up and let Henry take his seat at that point. Nothing like a little bruise on a kid's face to make a guy pony up.
I can't wait to see the Sista's (and Mom and Dad) this Summer and Ben and Heidi are coming in September so we get to show them around our great state, or "The Commonwealth" and all of New England. Definitely have to hit the Union Oyster house for some chowda and to get some canolli in Boston!
Check back at the end of the month and I'll hopefully have pictures again! I may still post what we're up to, but we don't have anything earth-shattering planned for the next couple weeks, so...
